Study Abroad

The University of Saint Mary offers students the opportunity to travel abroad to study for a summer, a semester, or a full year. Through our partnerships with other universities and colleges, it is possible to study at various locations around the world.

In recent years, USM students have studied abroad in
and taken study trips to the following countries:
- Austria
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Guatemala
- Ireland
- Italy
- Jamaica
- Japan
- Kenya
- Mexico
- Peru
- Russia
- Spain
- the U.K.

If you are interested in studying in another country, you should begin planning as early as possible, as preparation for study abroad can be a challenging process. Let your academic advisor know that you are interested in going abroad and that you would like assistance with your planning. Some of our study-abroad partner colleges offer limited financial assistance based on need and merit.

In recent years, USM students have studied in Peru, Kenya, Germany, South Korea, and Russia.

Study Tours (often called "field experiences") are regular activities organized and sponsored by the department of English, the nursing department, the fine arts department, and the department of history, political science, & global studies. These tours have included domestic trips to St. Louis, New York City, and Washington, D.C., and international trips to Mexico, Jamaica, Japan, and Europe.

The primary focus of each trip differs and ranges from the study of poverty, to attending conferences to doing research.

The Lawrence D. Starr Global Studies Institute at USM is the central resource for all study-abroad programs. It helps USM students coordinate credit earned abroad with the USM registrar's office, helps students prepare for their international study, and serves as a resource for info on study trips.
